Playing With Sound

This is a sample from Chapter 15 (Playing With Sound), Part 1 (The Garden) of Sona Siepakova’s novel Loved By The Sun

In Part 1 (The Garden), the main character, Meritaton, a pharaoh’s daughter, spends most of her time in the vast garden behind her palace. She is going to build a shamanic circle, try to call in the rain, speak with the Earth, see a pyramid with her father… In Part 2 (The School), Meritaton goes to a spiritual, mystery school where students learn techniques of personal and spiritual growth to gracefully pass their final test of courage…

There was no sense in hitching up her skirts. Her clothes were going to get dry before she arrived home. Water reached up to the middle of her thighs and as the stream pushed softly against her, she had to lean slightly backwards so that she wouldn’t buckle her knees and fall flat forwards in a moment of absent-mindedness.

Akhenaten smiled and again he sang his rising scale. Meritaten copied him enthusiastically. Afterwards, they sang it from the top down… Eventually, up and down at one exhale…

My mind is clear as a deep pool… Suddenly, Akhenaten turned poetic, obviously happy.

Meritaten joined him with what first came to her mind: And a beautiful horse drinks there to cool.

Both of them burst out laughing as children. Akhenaten continued: Refreshed, the horse left to graze under a tree.

I am free as long as my head is clear, Meritaten added.

Akhenaten tried to philosophise: I feel happy, grateful looking at the world, created as a playground for us to play and grow…

Meritaten sighed and her smile faded: What is going to be with me, I am afraid

Akhenaten hugged her around her shoulders and brought her out of the creek. Love is calling: Let me illuminate your way!
